Facilities

The relationship between ACE and the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry is historic. When JCCI built the Arab world’s most prestigious exhibition centre in 1990, they invited Al Harithy to relocate. As a result, ACE established its new headquarters at the splendid new facility, known as Jeddah International Exhibition & Convention Centre. Already operating within the region’s largest market, this move emphasised the upward mobility of the company and provided ACE exhibitions with a showcase that was second to none.

The Market

In a country that is expanding and changing as quickly as Saudi Arabia, naturally, the food and beverage markets are reflecting those changes in trends and dietary habits.

The burgeoning younger population is more health conscious thanks to social media and with many of them educated overseas, they are returning with a broader and more adventurous approach to food. These two factors are providing great opportunities for the food markets expansion in scale and diversity.

Putting those trends into context, the market sector is currently expanding by over 15% per annum. The health food market, by 12% with fast food due to turn over US$ 4.5 billion over the next three years. And the packaged food sector is growing by 5% with anticipated sales of almost US$ 22 billion in 2014.

The Kingdom’s domestic food processing market is also expanding at an unprecedented rate. Because this requires mainly imported ingredients, foreign suppliers and manufacturers have developed close relations and licencing agreements with the country’s processors.

Saudi Arabia’s catering and hospitality industry is one of the Kingdom’s fastest growing sectors. The reasons are obvious. A growing population that will have doubled in size in two decades; expansion of the domestic tourist industry; and the development of the pilgrim market that will greatly contribute to the 88 million annual visitors by 2020.

It is estimated that approximately 380,000 hotel rooms will be required by 2020 which is an almost 60% increase in accommodation during the course of the current decade. The wider hospitality sector has grown by 127% since 2004 making it the second most profitable hospitality market for investors worldwide. And that growth is destined to continue due to the same factors that have accounted for the surge during the last decade.

Tourism receipts for Hajj and Umrah currently account for around 3% of GDP and, according to tourism officials, the country gained a reported US$ 17 billion from tourism in 2013. That represents over 10% increase on the previous year. The rise in the number of pilgrims visiting the Kingdom for Hajj and Umrah, are reflected by the increase in domestic tourism, with Saudi residents making 22.5 million overnight trips per annum.
